Awards and Grants
Awards Committee Chair 2025-2026: Barbara Duff
Each year, the National Garden Clubs, Central Atlantic Region of State Garden Clubs and the Garden Club of New Jersey presents awards to various local clubs in recognition of their outstanding projects, programs and members.
All local clubs submit applications in compliance with the requirements of the National Garden Club (NCG). The Garden Club of LBI has been the recipient of numerous yearly awards. In addition to the State and National awards a club may also be presented awards by the Central Atlantic Region (CAR). The Central Atlantic Region consists of all garden clubs of NY, NJ, PA, OH, DE, MD and the Washington, DC area.
Environmental
Environmental Chair 2025-2026: Helen Comba
The Environmental Committee is committed to protecting LBI and surrounding areas through environmental education and hands-on participation. The Committee keeps Garden Club members and the Community up-to-date on important topics such as our growing plastic pollution problems, and protecting our island ecosystem with suggestions for environmentally friendly garden solutions. Committee members participate in a variety of community events to share information about reducing one-time plastic use, avoiding straws and seeking alternatives to balloon releases. The committee also shares information and strategies to help everyone protect our local wildlife including butterflies, bees and other pollinators. The Environmental Committee invites Garden Club members to participate with other non-profit organizations for beach cleanups throughout the year.
Gardens
The club maintains two gardens that are open to the public all year: The Edith Duff Gwinn Garden, founded by its namesake in 1968, and The Beach Haven Library Garden started in 1996. Each Monday from May to November, you’ll find a dedicated group of workers there planning, planting and, yes, even doing the occasional photo op!
